  3. Murin-an

Murin-an was established by a elder statesman Yamagata Aritomo during the Meiji Era (1868–1912). This name originated from the quiet place in Yamguchi prefecture where he used to have his villa built. After that, he constructed his villa in Kiyamachi-Nijo (another place in Kyoto city) but he yearned for another new villa and started to construct the one we currently have. However, due to the Sino-Japanese War in 1894 to 1895, the construction was temporarily suspended. It was completed in 1896. The large garden is said to be Aritomo‘s favorite place where you can enjoy the Japanese traditional pond strolling garden.
