There are days when it snows when the cold wave arrives in January and February in Kyoto although the winter has warmed up and snowfall has decreased in the past few years. It often starts to snow at night on a snowy day and has snow on the ground in the morning. You can see the the beautiful view of gardens and buildings in the snow if you wake up early in the morning and walk along the snowy road to visit the temple. My personal recommendation for a snowy landscape is Ginkaku-ji temple (Silver Pavilion). The Ginkaku-ji temple is often compared to the Kinkaku-ji temple (Golden Pavilion) where shines in a dazzling gold color. Ginkaku-ji temple is not as arrestingly gorgeous as the Kinkaku-ji temple, on the other hand, it has a dignified monotonous and mysterious appearance in the calmness and silence. You can feel the beauty of Zen in this temple, so it is especially recommended to visit there on snowy days.
